Every once in a while we get questions from our customers about the use of freon R-22 as a refrigerant and its scheduled phaseout. The EPA has put up a nice website explaining the time frame for this phaseout and some of the concerns consumers may have.
In a nutshell, the refrigerant will continue to be used in new refrigeration systems until 2010 & produced until 2020, after that replacement refrigerants will be available just like when R-12 was phased out in the mid 90's. Click here for additional information.
